Overview
Valley of Fire is one of southern Nevada's most scenic landscapes. Speckled with ancient petroglyphs and furnace red Aztec sandstone, this area is great for scenic hikes and photography alike.

The grey and white limestone is mixed among other geologic features that date back to the Jurassic period. Many day hikes are available to all skill levels, from short easy walks to moderate treks through the backcountry.

What To Expect
1
Valley of Fire State Park
Your day starts bright and early as you are picked up curbside at your hotel and make your way to Valley of Fire State Park. The park is situated north of Las Vegas about an hours drive. It is tucked away out of sight, but you will definitely know when you have arrived. The fiery red sandstone is filled with holes and crevices - perfect for scrambling, exploring, and climbing around. A brief stop at the visitor's center will show all this area has to offer. There are numerous trails for backcountry hiking and many spots offer scenic vistas that are spectacular for photography. Visit the historic cabins, climb the steps at Atlatl rock, or hike one of the many trails winding around the limestone and rainbow colored rocks. The geology in the area is stunning. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park, while watching for wildlife. Desert tortoises, hawks, lizard, and the occasional bighorn sheep can be spotted with a keen eye.
2
Lake Mead National Recreation Area
The road back to Las Vegas takes you along the shores of Lake Mead, where bright blue waters can be seen in the distance. Stop at one of the many viewpoints, or perhaps a natural spring. Take the road through Lake Las Vegas, or historic Boulder City. Either way, the drive back is another scenic highlight of the trip.
